If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions then we have the charity for you! We give free comfort quilts to children with diabetes -- kids whose life means 4-8 shots a day in addition to as many as 10-15 finger sticks -- every single day! Making a quilt for a child with diabetes is a wonderful way to show them another use for needles ... to sew quilts with love.
Get Started as a Volunteer To become a volunteer quilter for IPump you must be willing to make at least three (3) quilts. Asking groups like quilting associations and church groups, as well as quilting shops, and even schools are wonderful ways to get others involved. Volunteers use our materials to make quilts so you first need to print out and complete a Volunteer Agreement. (in pdf format). Once we approve you or your group as a volunteer we will send materials to make the number of quilts you agree to sew (minimum of three). You make the quilts, return them to us and we send them on to a child with diabetes indicating who made the quilt! If you are an individual who wishes to quilt for us you also need to complete a volunteer application and agree to a brief phone interview.
If you use any of your own materials it may be tax deductible (some restrictions apply so please read the Volunteer Agreement for more details).
Note: We are grateful you want to help but we now require a formal volunteer agreement in place to make sure we do not send materials to folks with less than noble ideas. Sadly, we have had a couple of shady individuals attempt to defraud IPump out of materials. |

Quilt requirements: Lap top or crib size -- something small enough that a child can carry their quilt around with them. Don't worry ... This is not a contest so we are grateful for even the simplest of panel quilts. When you make your quilt bear in mind it will be well loved on by a child so fancy hand-stitching is probably not going to hold up as well as something machine stitched. Please contact us with any questions or ideas you have. We would love to hear from you!
To make a comfort quilt for a child like Elizabeth to cuddle while getting finger sticks and shots is easyy ... the quilt does not have to be big, fancy, perfect, or elaborate. Kids care most that someone simply care What means the most to kids is simply that someone cared enough to do something nice for them.
