8.9 out of every 100 adults in Mississippi has diabetes, ranking it 2nd highest in the nation for the ratio of people with diabetes in the general population.
24.2 out of every adult 100,000 deaths in Mississippi are due to diabetes; making MS the 33rd lowest state in the U.S. with deaths from diabetes.
In 2005, 206,000 adults in Mississippi were diagnosed with diabetes and by 2007, 11% of the total adult population had been diagnosed with diabetes, and another 1% of the population in MS has been diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
