   Funding Sources and Practices

IPump.org is funded mostly through public donations (from people like you).  Donations that help fund our programs include both financial donations and in-kind donations of goods (like diabetes supplies and quilting materials) and in-kind professional services.

While we receive very generous donations of diabetes supplies and fabric for our quilting progam, to date, we have received less than $350 in outside donations -- our own Board has personally contributed 99.9% of all financial donations needed to run this organization. (We do have one outstanding matching grant some kind donor made through Home Depot Foundation but we do not know that amount nor have we actually received it at this time).

During all of 2006 and 2007 we had no paid staff or contractors; everything accomplished at IPump.org was done by one full-time volunteer.  We have budgeted to hire an executive director in 2008 (critical to our organization's long-term success); however, we will continue to rely on volunteer services as much as possible.

If you would like assist us in fundraising you can join the Fundraising Committee (you personally do not have to generate income just develop fundraising strategies) or volunteer your grant-writing experience.

For more information see "Committees" and "Volunteer Positions."

Fundraising practices

We DO:  follow up on leads given to us; approach businesses for the donation or diabetes supplies; allow certain "paid for" advertising on our site; accept financial donations in the mail and through our website; accept donations of new diabetes supplies and materials for our quilting program; pursue grants when possible.

We do NOT:  use professional fundraisers; mass-mail or phone solicit; purchase or otherwise obtain "potential donor" lists; hold raffles, bingo, contents, lotteries or sweepstakes.  We also do not sell any items that have been donated to us -- we give all in-kind donations made to us free to others in need.

Sometimes we have to purchase supplies.  Because our funding is so limited we need to use the cheapest sources possible.  We have been using Hocks Online for a while and were pleased with their service and prices. Because of our good relationship with Hocks we agreed to accept them as IPump's first affiliate sponsor.  While it is not our policy to specifically endorse or recommend any company, we can state that we do use Hocks Online, and that for any order you place through one of their links on our site, they will make a donation to us.

Thank you Hocks, for contributing to our cause!
