   About Donating Insulin Pumps

2008 - The Year of the Pump!

We are calling 2008 "The Year of the Pump" because our goal is to double the number of people we provided pumps to in 2007 and hope to get 20 (or more) people on pumps in 2008!

We accept donations of new and used, working or repairable insulin pumps.  If your pump does not work, please contact us.  If it just needs minor repair, we may be able to have it refurbished and use it for our program.

We cannot use pumps that are so old that supplies or service support  are no longer available for them!

D-TRON and H-TRON Pumps, and insulin pumps older than 4 fours. We are not accepting more D-TRON or H-TRON pumps OR pump supplies at this time. We have many on-any hand and have had a hard time placing them.

Any pump older than 4 years is also hard to place but some are impossible. Medtronic, for example is not supporting any pumps older than model 508. If your pump is older than four years please do not send it to us without contacting us first as we may not be able to place it with a new owner. For questions about a specific pump please email program-director@ipump.org.

We give donated pumps away for free to qualifying children with diabetes through our Insulin Pump Adoption for Children (IPAC) program.  This is a great way to help a child start a new life of pumping.  Pumps are too precious to waste sitting in a drawer somewhere gathering dust!

Please carefully package your pump and mail it to (we also suggest you opt for extra insurance for your own protection):

    IPump.org, Inc.
    2250 Alyssum Avenue
    Upland, CA  91784-7384
    Attention:  Lahle Wolfe

Please include your contact information in the package so that we can mail you a receipt for your donation!  We also suggest you let us know your pump is on the way so can alert you when it arrives (or if it does not arrive).

We are not responsible for lost or damaged pumps through the mail and therefore suggest you opt for extra insurance.  You will receive a donation receipt but you are required to assess the value of your donation as we are not appraisers.

If, for any reason you are unable or unwilling to ship the pump to us at your own expense, please contact us to see if we can work with you to make other arrangements. Generally, we do not pay for shipping donations as we need to spend as much as possible on providing free supplies to others in need.

Insulin Pump Supplies We Can Use

We can only use new, unexpired items.   Please do not send us items that have already expired or that may have been contaminated with body fluids including blood (i.e. used insertion devices).  The following are items we can use:

  • Insulin Pump supplies for pumps currently in use on the general market (i.e., we do not have a need for supplies for pumps that are no longer available or for D-TRON or H-TRON pumps at this time).
  • LMX or other numbing cream
  • Skin Tac and IV Prep Pads
  • IV 3000 Film
  • Unisolve
  • Pump pouches and pump wear

Our insulin pump supply donation program is slightly different from other donations we receive.  We reserve the right to give donated insulin pump supplies away (free) to other nonprofit clinics that treat diabetics.  This is because we often receive insulin pump supplies that expire soon -- perhaps sooner than we can give them away ourselves.  In this case, we try to find a clinic in the state where the supplies were originally donated that can distribute them on our behalf.   We do not sell any donated supplies or items, nor will we give them to any other organization that do agree in writing to give them away for free.

We do not give supplies to individuals to be distributed -- we only work with registered, nonprofit clinics, hospitals, and organizations.

You can also view our list of other organizations that can accept your donation of insulin pumps and supplies.  Just please send your extra items somewhere that they can go to others in need!

More than 1/3 of
      all patients with
      diabetes cannot
      afford their supplies.

        We give free supplies
        to  others in need.

2008 - The Year of The Pump  It costs us $200-$495 to have one used pump repaired and recertified. Even when we get donated pumps we still need financial gifts to have them repaired and into the hands of others in need.
