This is iPump’s first video. Since it is our first, I wanted to start with where the idea for iPump came – from a 5-year-old with type 1 diabetes, named Elizabeth Rose.

Please consider telling others about our good works.  Raising public awareness about diabetes is important – but so is letting others know about the millions of people with diabetes who cannot afford their insulin and supplies — people that iPump helps every single day.  Like most nonprofits, the recession has hit us hard in the budget department.  We have vrey few cash donors and need them to sustain our operations.

Here are some ideas – if you cannot contribute financially – but want to get involved:

Many donors are now struggling on their own and can no longer afford to send cash donations.  But you can help us for free!  Here are some ways that will cost you nothing that can add up to possible funding for iPump:

Use Goodsearch.com and Goodshop.com when you use the Internet. There is no cost to you at all and when you select iPump.org as your charity of choice you can raise money for us simply by surfing the net.

Tell your employer about iPump.  Because we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit we can get matching grants for anyone else who donates through your employer or your employer can simply set up an employee gift giving program!

Email Us with a thank you note we can post on our blog — or visit our blog yourself to add a comment note of thanks and tell others how we helped you. While donors give without expecting anything in return it is always nice for them to be able to read personal notes from people that their contributions helped.

Tell The Media About Us! Contact People, Oprah, newspapers, TV stations, etc. and tell them about iPump … here’s contact information to major news sources and TV shows to make it easier!

Visit iGive.com. Select iPump.org, Inc. using the keyword charity search button as the charity you wish to shop for. Shop as your normally would from their long list of participating online merchants and a percentage of sales is donated to our cause.

There are now more than 700 merchants participating (see list) including iTunes store, clothing stores, flower shops, jewelry, gifts, office supplies, and so much more. Shop QVC, eBay, Best Buy, Overstock.com, Home Depot, Land’s End and hundreds more places just as you normally would and you will get great deals and be helping to save the lives of people with diabetes!

Jeffrey I. Ehrlich, and daughter with type 1 diabetes

Jeffrey I. Ehrlich, iPump, Inc.’s president of the board of directors has been nominated for the 2009 “The Gentlemen’s Fund, Better Men Better World Search.”

Mr. Ehrlich, a father of a child with type 1 diabetes, has been a tireless advocate of people with diabetes. He has given countless hours of probono legal services to iPump as well as to individuals fighting insurance companies, and disability issues at work and school.

An excerpt from the nomination, which you can view online:

As the father of a daughter with type 1 diabetes, Jeff has made a personal commitment to help the 15,000 American children who are diagnosed with the disease each year. He is the co-founder and President of iPump, the only organization in America that gives free insulin pumps to needy families. In just three years, it has collected 1.75 million dollars worth of donated medical supplies and has already helped more than 8,000 diabetics.

(Note, since the nomination was made, that “8,000″ figure is now more than 10,000.)
