Free diabetes supplies

About the Request for Essential Diabetes Supplies (REDS) Program

Application Backlog Update:   Our donations of diabetes supplies have significantly dropped so our supplies on hand are lower than usual. This means it takes more time to get you the supplies you need.  We ship out donated supplies to you as quickly as we possibly can.

General Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for free diabetes or insulin pump supplies you must legally reside in the United States, have diabetes, and:

  • Have no insurance coverage for items you are requesting; and
  • Satisfactorily demonstrate financial hardship; and
  • Must be a child under the age of 18 (parent applying for a child); or
  • Be a full-time college student (taking 9 or more credits per semester) age 18-20 who does not have diabetes coverage insurance.

If you are not certain if you might qualify, please take our online general eligibility test.

About the Program

This program offers free, essential diabetes supplies to qualifying individuals for a period of 3-6 months. How many supplies we can send is limited to what supplies have been donated to us and that we have available at any given time. Generally, we can assist with glucose meters, test strips, insulin pump supplies, lancets and lancing devices, syringes, and pen needles (we do not provide medications, insulin, or insulin pens).

We are able to help you faster if you are flexible about brand names.  We understand that you may have a strong preference for a particular cannula or brand of test strips, however, the more flexible you are in accepting comparable or alternative brands, the more likely we can help you.

Prescription Diabetes Supplies

Because we are not a licensed pharmacy we are unable to send prescription items directly to clients. We can, however, send them to your doctor, health clinic or facility, or pharmacist of your choosing where you can pick them up. Items that we consider "prescription" items include: syringes, pen needles, insulin pump infusion sets (cannulas), insulin pump reservoirs (cartridges), and insulin pumps.

We Cannot Mail You an Application

Due to severe budget restrictions, we are no longer able to mail applications.  If you do not have a printer, please visit your local library or have a friend or relative print an application for you.  Your doctor's office might even be willing to print one for you.

We regret this inconvenience but were spending as much as $200 per month printing and mailing applications and need to preserve our funds for direct assistance programs.

Social workers and agencies - we will NOT send applications to your own clients/patients on your behalf.  If you have someone you are working with, you need to print the application for them.  We were receiving many requests from social workers to mail applications only to have the applications returned to us as a bad address. This is very costly to our organization.  We ask now that you print the applications and give them to your clients (or mail them, if necessary).

Important Program Changes!!
We will soon be charging a $20 co-pay to help with our costs.

To expedite our order fulfillment process, we will be moving to an online ordering system.  This means if you are approved you will be able to visit our store and order your own supplies. This will give our clients the greatest flexibility in ordering what they need and prefer.

In the past, iPump paid for all shipping but because our shipping bill has often exceeded $1,000 per month, we will be requiring all approved applicants who order free supplies through our store to pay a flat $20 copay to cover shipping and handling charges.

This fee is not tax deductible for you as it is not a donation and the value of supplies you will receive will far exceed the $20 fee.
